After a top bearings in large gearboxes had again failed catastrophically, After trying numerous filtration products, and changing maintenance schedules & techniques, with little or no positive impact on the issues, this large US paper plant called on Magnom to find a way to keep the plant running. The ongoing fault had been caused by oil pumps repeatedly failing due to metal contamination build up, which had in turn overheated the main bearings, causing them to wear heavily, and gain over ¼” in endplay.
The plant had been uncomfortably close to a catastrophic failure on several occasions.
Engineers installed Magnom technology upstream of conventional coalescing filters.

After a week using the Magnom products, the fluid was completely clean of the damaging contamination – this resulted in a resolution to these historic failures, and Magnom solutions being specified throughout the plant to filter all lubrication and hydraulic systems, as well as their diesel and water lines.
